💵Budget Season for Broome County and the City of Binghamton
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham laid out the budget proposals for their respective municipalities.
The Broome County proposed 2027 budget calls for the eighth consecutive year of tax rate cuts with an exact number to be determined, an expansion to the senior citizen property tax exemption, a million-dollar senior affordability initiative, a $1.5 million contribution to the Universal Daycare Pilot, and a $500,000 Small Community Fund (Fox40). In the City of Binghamton, the proposed 2027 budget calls for a 2.9% property tax increase and allocates over $10 million for infrastructure upgrades and $675,000 for parks. Also in the plans are new housing near UHS General Hospital and the reconstruction of Chenango and Henry St. Some City Council members have expressed concerns about the budget, which will be discussed in the coming weeks (WBNG, NC34).
