🧑🚒🙏9/11 At 25 - Reflections in Broome County
News outlets throughout the area marked the anniversary of 9/11 through different voices that experienced the event just three hours away and the future it built today, 25 years later.
This includes first responders such as state troopers and firefighters. Also a local survivor facing health issues, a ground-zero serviceman, teachers from Vestal and Binghamton, a veteran, and fmr. City of Binghamton Mayor Richard Bucci.
Binghamton University held its first 9/11 memorial stair climb in honor of the anniversary and the 15 alumni who died in the attack, while SUNY Broome held a memorial ceremony (Press & Sun, WBNG, WNBF, NC34, Fox40).
🗳️Ntl. Republicans Withdraw Support from Oberacker as Riley Takes Heat on Israel, Focuses on Utilities
Republicans in Washington have withdrawn financial support from Peter Oberacker (R), who is running against congressional Rep. Josh Riley (D), removing him from the National Congressional Committee's MAGA Majority list after it was discovered that he publicly honored his grandfather, who fought for the Nazis in WWII, on social media, saying "I salute all who served." (NC34).
Riley spent time this week in a roundtable on his goal of utility reforms over ownership and costs as NYSEG rates increase (Fox40). But Riley has not been immune to controversy either during this election season, and has faced protests over his continued support for Israel during what a U.N. Commission has declared a genocide in the Gaza Strip (Ithaca Times) and its support of violent settlers in the West Bank that U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has labeled "Terrorists" (The Hill). Riley recently voted to block federal aid for universities that engage in boycotts against Israel (Cornell Sun).
Both candidates were late in filing financial disclosure forms (NC34).
