🏚️Broome County Residents Vote Housing as Biggest Concern
When surveying for the Broome County Health Office's 2025-2030 Community Health Assessment, residents said housing was a, if not the, top concern in the area (Press & Sun) as homelessness saw a rise in the Southern Tier (WBNG).
Broome County Health Department officials said access to safe, stable, and affordable housing is imperative for physical and mental health.
Olivia Catalano, Director of Public Health in Broome County, said those who cannot share costs with others, should reach out to the Department of Social Services for guidance and assistance (WBNG)
Over recent months, the Binghamton area has seen protests (NC34), new support and development proposals (NC34) and loss of life (WSKG & WBNG) in the face of homelessness issues and housing shortage.
⛳En-Joie Golf Course, Home of the DICK'S Open, Faces Questions Over its Future
The Village of Endicott has opened a Request for Proposal for the management of the golf course as its contract with Broome County ends this year.
This meant any large-scale repairs, including $8 million required to replace the irrigation, must be funded by the Village (Press & Sun). Officials say the system, prone to leakage, could be a threat to future PGA Champions Tour events (NC34).
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar says the only way for the county to assist with repairs is to assume ownership of the course. The county has denied continuing its management agreement, and has engaged with the Village on potentially taking ownership (WBNG).
