🫂Knights Inn Fire Updates
The fallout from the fire that killed six people at the Knights Inn on Monday morning continues, with help pouring in from the community to the victims (Press & Sun). A man was arrested on manslaughter and arson charges for the fire (WBNG)
The original emergency shelter in Vestal has shut down as all displaced residents have now been placed in housing or other temporary accommodations, but a drop in resource center will remain open (WBNG). The fate of the remaining Knights Inn buildings, which had reported safety violations prior to the fire, is unclear (NC34).
Protesters set up an encampment outside of Downtown Binghamton government buildings in response to poor conditions and response to the local homelessness crisis (NC34).
🗳️Primary Results
Dan Norton, backed by outgoing Assemblywoman Lupardo and State Sen. Webb defeated Dan Livingston in the Democratic primary for New York State's 123rd Assembly District.
Norton is set to face off against Republican Lynn Parker and Independent Heather Micha in the November election.
Following his primary victory, the race for the NY-19 congressional district is set as Republican Peter Oberacker faces off with incumbent Democrat Josh Riley
