New guide! Plus a few updates!
Survey, call for writers, how to get in touch with local news organizations, and variety posts coming soon!
👋Hello! Thank you for following this project so far!
I've been happy to hear people learning about events and finding new ways to get involved in the community and support culture here in the Southern Tier because of this newsletter's first few months.
Happy to say that the official legal name for this blog and future works underneath it is going to be Binghamtonian Media LLC, which is fun.
❗First, mea culpa - I forgot to mention in this week's events newsletter Binghamton folk sensation Driftwood's two-night residency at Atomic Tom's on Friday and Saturday, which you can get tickets for here ($30, 8 pm)
If I ever miss anything, please reach out! I'll make sure it gets added to the web post as soon as I can.
‼️Please Take This Survey
I want to make this newsletter serve you as best as it can!
Please use this to provide some feedback to let me know if it's going in the right direction - and what direction you want it to go in!
📰New Guide!
I made a new guide to join the Local Governments guide on how to contact local news outlets!

As a media professional myself, I know how hard it can be for some of these reporters to know about all the goings on in the community without tips or help, especially since many of them are just starting their careers.
Hopefully, this guide encourages you to shoot some ideas over to our local outlets so they can cover our community better!
You can find that guide here
This was just a quick one though - next I'm planning on publishing one of local clubs and organizations you can get involved in. Stay tuned!
Guides published can be found in the top navigation bar of the site here:

📜I've printed flyers and business cards to promote the newsletter!

Let me know if you want some to hang in your business, workplace, or favorite hangout space!
Would love to keep spreading the word about this newsletter so that it can help more people discover new parts of their community.
Reach out by emailing info@binghamtonian.news to let me know of any good spots or if you want to take some to spread around!
✉️Weekly variety posts to start soon
My goal is to have something interesting every week that makes a positive impact on the community.
This could be in the form of more guides, community features, investigative journalism, reviews, and more.
I have a few ideas so far, for example -
- Why does Endicott have so many parking lots, and what can we do about it?
- Our trail system is unfinished - often people can be seen biking or walking on 17/17C to get where they need to go. What needs to be done to finish it? What do those walkers and bikers think?
- Spotlights on Binghamton's different ethnic communities and celebrations, and the different languages spoken here every day
- Binghamton does not have a proper public square. Why? Should we get one? How and where?
- The small business owners downtown trying to build community spaces
- The remaining fallout shelters in Broome County
This is all spitballing at the moment, and no promises.
Have any ideas of your own? Send ideas over or...
✍️Are you a local writer? Want to help in another way?
I will also begin looking for writers to feature!
If you have a pitch on a feature, essay, or other writing pieces, please reach out! From there, we can discuss fair rates based on the work proposed.

Ever since the Carousel Art and Culture monthly shuttered, there has not really been a place for local culture writing. I would love this publication to grow into a home for that.
I would also love to work with someone to eventually start producing short-form videos for Instagram and Facebook. If this is you, please get in touch!
Thanks for reading!
