🚓Investigations, funeral for man shot by Vestal police
The New York Attorney General's Office has opened an investigation into the death of Eslam Hegazy outside his Sequoia Lane home after he was shot by police on a mental health call when he allegedly approached police with a knife after failing to comply.
Vestal Town Supervisor Maria Sexton said she expects further details and to-be-released body camera footage will show officers followed standard procedure (NC34).
A funeral for Hegazy was held at the Islamic Organization of the Souothern Tier Mosque in Johnson City as community members raise doubts that lethal force was necessary (NC34).
